Project Lifesaver’s program helps bridge the gap for protection and safety to locate loved ones of all ages who wander due to Autism, Down syndrome, Alzheimer’s, dementia or other cognitive conditions.

One in every 68 American children have Autism .

In a recently released 2011 National Autism Survey, 50 % of parents of children with autism reported that their child had a tendency to wander. Among these families, nearly 50% said their child went missing long enough to cause significant concern about safety.

Over 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease.

Current statistics indicate that about 60 percent of persons suffering from Alzheimer’s will wander at some point.

Working continuously with advocacy groups to better certify, educate, train, and constantly inform our members about the most innovative approaches in search and rescue to quickly locate loved ones that wander due to Autism, Down syndrome, Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other cognitive conditions.

Our goal is “Bringing Loved One’s Home”

Our Mission

The primary mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, Autism, and other related conditions or disorders.

(PLI) is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that bridges the technological gap for “at risk” populations and public safety agencies. We provide police, fire/rescue and other first responders with a comprehensive program on the use of specialized electronic search and rescue equipment, technology and procedures, as well as teaching rescuers how to effectively communicate with people afflicted with cognitive conditions, all of which are essential to a successful rescue.

Project Lifesaver has over 1,400 participating member agencies throughout 48 states in the U.S., six provinces in Canada, and Australia, and has performed 3,038 searches over the last 16 years with no serious injuries or fatalities ever reported. Project Lifesaver provides equipment, training, certification and support to law enforcement, public safety organizations and community groups throughout the country and nation.

In addition, Project Lifesaver develops public outreach programs to educate others about the issue of wandering, and they constantly work toward developing public policy and effective law enforcement response to help save lives and “Bringing Loved Ones Home.”
